L'éducation Infini

Alas, the burden of the modern world.

Gail Goodwin once said, "Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths pure theatre. "

Well, that was one hell of a preparation.

Recently, sitting for various test made me unable to write a new post, and that's why I am writing here today, to refresh the dreary outlook my blog had garnered while I was being reduced to being examined in the courtrooms of education.

Trying to earn a certificate of teaching is not easy, I say.

I had to seat through tests on Immanuel Kant and his Ethics, quantum mechanics of the working world order, physics of space anomalies, the Theory of Relativity, study of vulcanism and cultism, the Ark of the Covenant and its impact on the Christian and Islamic world, Napoléon Bonaparte's last word before his fall at Waterloo and more.

Well, after all these strenous test, you would think it was over, then they drop on you a mysterious test that if you failed, you would not pass the whole examination.

And where did the inspiration come from? Guess what?

Fritz Redl said, "Boredom will always remain the greatest enemy of school disciplines. If we remember that children are bored, not only when they don't happen to be interested in the subject or when the teacher doesn't make it interesting, but also when certain working conditions are out of focus with their basic needs, then we can realize what a great contributor to discipline problems boredom really is. Research has shown that boredom is closely related to frustration and that the effect of too much frustration is invariably irritability, withdrawal, rebellious opposition or aggressive rejection of the whole show. "

So we must learn theatrics too, as a conclusion.

On a brighter note, I would be redeeming my certificate in a week's time, then would be flying over to Singapore to teach in a private institution.

But if Singapore is what it says here, then I better bow down to Robo-Lee...

Real Life Stroggs & GDF?

Excerpt from: http://stroggifier.blogspot.com/2008/02/would-we-be-foundation-of-gdf.html

"Will the GDF begin arising from Singapore? Is this a dream come true??? Will the world's strongest standing global army begin its uprise from our homeland itself??? See for yourself. The latest SAR-21 matches the detail of the GDF Standard-AR. Similar to contrary belief, I assume that Singapore has what it takes to stand up against the Stroggs... and I would gladly rise to be the Supreme Commander!"

Well, I have been mulling over this post for some time, thinking about the implications and factors for this to succeed, (A probable scenario, judging from Singapore's efficiency and neutrality.) and concluded that GDF is possible.

GDF is an abbreviation of Global Defense Force, founded to defend Earth from the hostile alien race named as Stroggs.

For such a military organization form, the co-operation of all the nations, not just the Western superpowers, for a global effort is needed to repulse the invasion. Without one nation's co-operation, the force will lack the unity to repel the enemies, but that is unlikely if the majority joins the coalition in regards to trade.

Another will be the mainframe for the GDF. Singapore is more likely than Saudi Arabia or Russia, but not by much. Singapore has a excellent law and justice system and are in sync with technology developments to date, but the superpowers will surely vie for the honor and economic interests of the hosting country, and the superpowers will likely exert their power on Singapore and bulldoze their protests.

Even if not faced with foreign relation stress, Singapore does not have sufficient land capacity to contain all the troops of the GDF and the headquarters at the same time. Singapore is only 704.0 km² (272 sq mi), and even to have a delegation of 500 troops from each nation, Singapore will be overwhelmed and the headquarters...

Do I seriously need to say more?

Also, judging from the strife and conflicts between various countries, this is unlikely to happen soon. Try to bring China and Japan together, and I am certain that the Japanese delegations will be burnt alive drenched in napalm while crucified to a rusty iron cross.

Not only that, religions will conflict. One extremely good example is the Jemaah Islamiyah and Al-Qaeda. They murdered thousands by bombing tourist hot spots and important areas, never daring to attempt a direct confrontation with military forces, with a justification as flimsy as a sheet of tracing paper. Osama bin Muhammad bin 'Awad bin Laden (أسامة بن محمد بن عوض بن لادن‎) believes in only the Sharia law, and all other ideologies such as democracy is unholy and attacks US for humanity's unsightly traits, Israel for being under US control, recreation, the Jewish population. "These Jews are masters of usury and leaders in treachery. They will leave you nothing, either in this world or the next.", said by Osama. What does Osama sounds like? Of course, Adolf Hitler, dictator of Germany in WWII and a murderer who caused the Holocaust and killed millions. Tell me how justified is Osama in killing innocents?

Our technology level is not high enough, finacial support not stable, self-proclaimed Osamas jumping out of nowhere is the least of the stumbling blocks. The true stumbling blocks are the division and malice we humans feel for one another. What chance do we have forming a united coalition with all those enimity even against a looming threat?

But that is just earthly matters. I think that GDF is still possible if out of the blue hostile aliens jump out of wormholes and start vaporising our cities and enslaving humanity. The chances of that happening is 0.00000000000001%. But still possible.

Review of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Call of Duty 4 – The Game We Have Been Waiting For.

“Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (often abbreviated to COD4) is a first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows. It is the fourth installment in the Call of Duty video game series (excluding expansions), but the first one to break away from the World War II setting and be set in modern times, and the first game in the series to be rated Mature in North America. The title and game details were announced on April 25, 2007. It was released worldwide between November 6, 2007 and November 9, 2007, and became available on Steam on November 6, 2007 for pre-purchase, becoming available to play on November 12, 2007. A Mac OS X version of the game is scheduled to be released in May 2008.The game has received almost universal praise, winning multiple awards at gaming websites, and has been complimented on its storyline, visual elements, realism, and quality of its multiplayer.

The story is set in a fictional near-future war between the U.S. and Europe against Russian Ultranationalists and Middle Eastern rebels, and features many real-world weapons and vehicles. It is told from the perspective of both a US Marine and an operative of the British SAS, and is set in a variety of locations, including the Middle East, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Chernobyl. Its multiplayer features a variety of game modes and contains a "level/ranking" system, with the player unlocking additional weapons, weapon attachments, and camouflage schemes as they advance.”

From Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia

I tried out the game and I think it was great. The graphics, especially showcased in the Prologue part of the game, is astounding. With a near perfect 3D animation and co-ordination, it made my time spent playing it worth it. I do think that the developers should have included a movie that explores the plot in another dimension. (Al-Fulani don't count. It is something like a animated credits with the interaction mode turned on.)

The game is fast-paced, and relatively fun to play, with sprinting enabled and loads of weapons to choose from, but the interaction factor is not there. You can't use a tank or any other vehicle, and can't pick up anything that is not related to the mission and plot. Deus Ex and the prequel Call of Duty 2 have better interaction factors, though without the graphic supremacy of COD4. The plot is also quite typical. The major powers, US and Britain come crushing down on other coloured demented terrorists who decides to fry their good old world, and in the end the Caucasians win. Oh yeah! How exciting! Ooooo! Although there are demented terrorists out there, they are not necessarily absolutely be Asian, Middle-Eastern or Russian. This archetypical labelling is just too old. Try to be more creative and think of relatively new plots. I know it is hard to come out with a good unused plot, but this had been featured in many games and shows that it had become very unoriginal. I am sure if someone patented the storyline, millions will be accused of copyright infringement and sued. (Okay, maybe there is a little bit of exaggeration.)

And why is the rating Mature? Not like there is anything horrific or something. When I turn the gory level to maximum, there is also not much gore, just red paint splattering in low quantity. I do think that this should be rated Teen.

I personally would rate this game 79.5%. What do you think?

PS: This is my first post! As if you hadn't noticed.
